I ordered a fish plate and was happy with what I got. Was way more, on the plate, than I expected.

Family friendly place with amazing food. The lunch special is perfectly priced. So many choices of plates I'll have to come back to try them all. The servings are large and everything is hot. I love supporting local minority owned business' and I will definitely return.

24 Mar 2024 It's a bit confusing as to what you do when you enter. We sat down and then an employee told us to get in line. Oh, OK. It's kind of like a Luby's, grab a tray, tell the server which entree you'd like, then your two sides and a pice of cornbread. The price is about $16.99. We were given a 10% senior discount. Your drink is extra. Tea is $2.89, not bad. We had meatloaf, pork ribs, macaroni and cheese, white rice with gravy and collard greens. All is very good. The meatloaf is simple. I think the seasoning is just salt and pepper. You are offered the same gravy used on the rice. I took it. The ribs were very meaty and fall off the bone good. The cornbread is muffin-like. The tea is sweet. They also have sodas, lemonade and kool-aid. It is the same menu all the time. No 'lunch specials'. They do a big Door Dash business. Very few people eat-in like we and a couple of others did. A server checks on you periodically, refills your drinks. This is a place worthy of your visit. Go there.

Good ol' soul food! I wish it was more of a table side service instead of a buffet-type line...but the quality of the food is definitely there. If they had live music and poetry, that would really be amazing too. The sweet potato pie is to die for. And overall, we enjoyed it.

We finally made it to this restaurant after a few years of saying we should since it's on the way home from our church. My husband and I were quite impressed with the selection. We both got the smothered pork chops and thought they were pretty good. I got the yams and cabbage as sides and they also were pretty tasty. We beat some of the church crowd and upon trying to check out and pay discovered someone had already covered our meals and the meals of several others in line at the time. It was a great holiday surprise!! The service was okay and the atmosphere was nice. The restrooms are a little difficult to find, but they were OK once you found them.

Happy National Fried Chicken Day (July 6) and there's no other place to celebrate than at Mrs. Kitchen's Fried Soul Food on Walzam Rd. In Windcrest. The service here is so friendly you'd think you're part of the Family. The ambiance is updated and classy with nods to George Benson and Al Jarreau. However, it's the Fried Chicken Plate I came here for and it was really - really good. I was served 4-pieces of bone-in Chicken fried to a golden brown, which is crispy slightly tangy holding in all the juicy flavors. Make certain you have enough napkins on hand. This chicken is not greasy but, it's moist with just the right amount of flavor in every bite. So, get on the Soul Train over to Mrs. Kitchens and discover truly great fried food favorites. As always, eat in good health.

I've been wanting to support more black-owned businesses and thought of @mrskitchensa for dinner tonight. It's the first time for Dad to have soul food, and he really enjoyed it. There were so many choices as we went through the cafeteria-style area. We chose 3 entrées and they came with 2 sides and corn muffin. Entrées: Fried Chicken, Baked Fish, and Oxtail Pot Pie. Our sides were mashed potato with gravy, candied yams, and corn. Dad tried everything! Everything was delicious, but my favorite side was the candied yams! We had leftovers and bought a peach cobbler to go. More people need to stop by and enjoy the generous helpings! All so reasonably priced, too! Dad had 10% off for being a senior citizen. Military discounts, too!

I was told about this place by a friend. Let me tell you how my evening was, we arrived and when we walked in it was a little confusing. There is a sign to file to the right and it was an buffet with servers. This reminded me of the old days family style restaurants I went to as a kid. The gentleman who was serving guided us in what to do. I had the ribs, Mac and cheese, collard greens, and koolaide. Before I discuss the food let me finish the process. You file around order your drink and proceed to pay at the register. Make your way to a seat and the lady will bring your drink to you. Now the food. The ribs were oven baked and fall off the bone delicious. I will recommend if it's your first time you will not be disappointed. The Mac and cheese was alright. I would class it with most Mac and cheese in the area. The collard greens were seasoned well and a lot. I only ate half. Which tells you this was a full meal. I was full after leaving and not even hungry the rest of the night. My wife had almost the same but meatloaf and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were creamy but not much different than other places. The meatloaf was good. I wish I tried more to give a good feedback but it was huge. I would classify it as a slice of pizza worth of meatloaf. My wife only finished a 1/3 of it. I felt the price was consistent with other places and portions were decent. Lastly, the atmosphere: this place was quiet but not sure if it changes through the different hours. The staff was awesome and polite. It was like being at a family dinner but separated. I mean I felt welcomed and warm there, but tables were spread out and people sat in pockets within the space. As I stated this was my first time there and this is my first impression. Give it a try and see if this is your type of place and food. We truly enjoyed it.
